"There has been a crime! " A student'’s phone was stolen and the Biology 20 students stepped in as forensic experts!" Using their knowledge of macromolecules, they tested evidence left at the scene to identify the culprit. By analyzing proteins, starches, glucose, and lipids, they cracked the case—matching the clues to the guilty party’s food!
Full disclosure: no phone was actually stolen....

Ms. Murray’s Grade 7 students participated in a lab activity utilizing geo boards to explore transformations, including translations, rotations, and reflections. This hands-on approach provided students with the opportunity to physically manipulate objects, enhancing their comprehension of how these mathematical concepts function in practice.

Congratulations Johnny McDonald and Zach Legace for being chosen as our "Crusaders of the Month." Great job, Johnny and Zach, for demonstrating outstanding leadership in our Catholic school through faith-filled actions, kindness, care and compassion. You truly embody the spirit of our school community.

A HUGE shout out to Assumption's incredible "mathletes!" Congratulations to Ella, Carter, Ayokunmi, Levi and Zach; the winners of the University of Waterloo Team Canadian Intermediate Math Contest. The team was automatically selected from the top 5 scoring contestants to represent our school and finished first for our zone within Alberta. We look forward to seeing continued interest and success in the contests we participate in for mathematics!

Mme. Nancy received a $1000 bursary for a project aimed at honouring and preserving Canadian history from the two World Wars by creating an interactive Memorial Park in Cold Lake. This initiative will feature QR codes that visitors can scan to access bilingual stories and biographies of Canadians who participated in these conflicts. These stories, written in both English and French by her students, are designed to connect the community with its history and teach young people about the importance of remembrance. On Wednesday, Dec 4th, FLA 30 students presented to Mayor Copeland, who granted permission to install an interactive panel with QR codes and plant a commemorative tree at the Legion Park near the old fire hall in Cold Lake North. The city has also allocated a big budget to cover the costs of the panel, tree planting, and improvements to the cenotaph and walkway. They will work on this with the council, as it was already a plan to update that park.

As we enter the holy season of Advent, a time of preparation and hope, the Religion 10 class has decided to embrace the spirit of giving by organizing a Clothing Drive in support of Kokum's Corner. This initiative reflects our Catholic call to serve others and share Christ’s love during this sacred time of year. Students, staff and families are encouraged to participate by donating clean, gently used winter clothing (~ jackets, hats, mittens, scarves, boots). All other clothing items are also welcomed. Warm, winter socks would be greatly appreciated.

Hope lights the way this Advent. In the first week of Advent, students from Light of Christ Catholic School and Holy Family Catholic School reflect on what hope means to them. 🕯️ Watch the video@ https://youtu.be/yU5po3Vh-6c Let’s spread the light of hope this season!

Thanks to Imperial Oil's continued generosity and support of our "Mental Health Matters" campaign and Cold Lake Food Bank's incredible donation of fresh BC apples, students at AJSH received a wonderful surprise at noon today. Office staff arranged and operated a free "Apple Bar" in the foyer. We served over 400 students sliced apples with an array of fun toppings. ( ~Many others chose to eat them plain). At home-time, students were also gifted free bags of apples to take home to their families. True to Advent preparation, our hearts are full.

Students and staff at AJSH gathered today to mark the beginning of the Advent season. “Advent” means “arrival,” and on each of the four Sundays preceding Christmas, an Advent candle is lit. The 4 candles of Advent; hope, love, joy, and peace, represent the virtues Jesus brought us, helping us to prepare our hearts and minds for the celebration of Christmas.
This week we centre our thoughts on Hope.
Psalm 119:114: “You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word."

As we enter this season of hope, joy, and anticipation, AJSH has embraced the spirit of Advent with open hearts!
Today, we will gather for liturgy as a school community, light the first candle on our Advent wreath, and reflect on the themes of hope and preparation.
From classroom activities to acts of kindness, our community is ready to journey together toward the celebration of Christ's birth. 🌟
Over the weekend, staff and their families participated in St Dominic Parish's wreath-making workshop to get the holiday season started right!
