Merciful and loving God, We come before You with hearts full of gratitude and sorrow as we remember Your servant, Pope Francis. You called him to be a shepherd to Your people, a voice for the poor, and a sign of Your mercy to the world. As we entrust him to Your eternal care, we ask You to welcome him into the joy of Your heavenly kingdom. Grant him peace, and give us strength to carry forward the light of his witness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer for the Church: As we commend Pope Francis to Your mercy, we pray for the Church he loved and served. May the Holy Spirit guide those who will choose the next pope. May the Church continue to shine with the light of Christ, inspired by Pope Francis’s life of service, humility, and love.

Foods 10/20/30: Students in High School Foods classes at AJSH had the opportunity to visit Portage College in St. Paul to learn more about Culinary Arts as a career path. Students were given a tour of the facilities and provided a delicious lunch. Staff talked about the resources available to students at all three Portage College campuses. Students also had the opportunity to shop at the market provided by the Culinary Arts students and learned how students prepare meals for the community as part of their program. It was an incredibly informative and inspiring day for all.

Legacy of Hope: Pope Francis encouraged us to be messengers of hope in a broken world. Through his words and actions, he reminded us that the Church is a place of welcome, joy, and new life. May his legacy live on in our hearts and guide future generations toward Christ.

Grade 10 English students took to the court room last week in a Mock Trial, after reading To Kill a Mockingbird. The trial determined if Boo Radley was guilty in the death of Bob Ewell, which was a plot event that took place at the end of the book. What do you think? Guilty, or not guilty?

Strength in Suffering: We reflect on the physical, emotional, and spiritual burdens Pope Francis carried with patience and trust in You. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Sheyna Badger, Lakeland Catholic’s Indigenous Outreach Worker, for teaching and demonstrating the sacred practice of Smudging in Culture Club this week. Smudging is a deeply rooted ceremony in many First Nations cultures, used to spiritually purify and cleanse individuals or spaces through the burning of natural medicines such as sage, cedar, sweetgrass, and tobacco. This meaningful experience aligns with Alberta Education’s Teaching Quality Standard #5, which emphasizes applying foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis, and Inuit for the benefit of all students. Thank you, Sheyna, for sharing your wisdom and helping us deepen our understanding and respect for Indigenous culture and traditions.
